Kayla, Carla, and Steph placed 2nd (results) in the Bob McIntyre Memorial New England Relays (Tab Article, globe article). This was essentially the “state open” relay meet. Newton North’s total long jump distance was 14.54m compared with the 13.94m total that won them the Div 1 relay meet. It also broke the school record dating back to 2001. Not bad for two sophmores and a freshman who don’t have a long jump pit to practice with. Kayla now has two school records to her credit. Penbroke won with a state and meet record of 15.92m with their #1 jumper hitting 18’9″ — the #8 jump in the USA this year. Penbroke’s #2 jumper took 2nd at 17’11 3/4″ While Newton was powerd by Carla’s 3rd place school record 17’11 1/2″ jump, Kayla did her part jumping 14’8″ for 22nd, beating the #3 jumpers from all teams but Pembroke, and the #2 jumpers from 9 of the 15 teams.
