Kayla jumps to 3rd place against Needham

Kayla jumped to a 3rd place in the long jump with a 15’4″ (2nd best outdoors) in Newton’s 119-12 blow out of Needham last week. She also placed 4th in hurdles with her 2nd fastest race all-time (17.4). Newton had lightened their line-up to avoid a blow out, but Needham pulled their distance runners to train which made it worse than expected. Nanny and Papa made the journey to see the meet but Kayla was too fast for them :-).

The Apprentice

Jared shadowed Dad through a work day last week as part of a school “apprenticeship” assignment.

Jared with Cell Culture Development manager Dr. Tim Johnson before his lab tour.

From 2010-04

As part of the assignment he had to write a letter confirming the details, a thank you note, and an essay.

Dear Mr. Prior:

Thank you so much for letting me observe your work. It was a very interesting experience and I had fun. My teacher mentioned that we kids lose sight of why we go to school and that is so true, so thanks for giving me an opportunity to regain my sight.

I learned a lot today about management and biochemistry. It was interesting to meet some of your colleagues and watch what you do during the day. My favorite part of the day was when we went to the  plant and saw the bioreactors and other equipment and I learned how it worked. When your friend Tim showed us the lab where some of the cells for one product are made. I also enjoyed when you were negotiating with some international clients.

Again, I’d like to thank you very much for doing this. It was very kind for you to bring me around all day and letting me observe activities even if you didn’t have to.

Sincerely,

Jared Prior
