Jared wins 2 events in Day track team opener

Jared competed in his first middle school track meet against Oak Hill middle school on Friday (photos). He scored 10 of Day’s 37 points winning the 8 lb shot put (31’8″) and 100 (11.9). The line-painted grass track might be a bit short, but he was well ahead of 2nd place 12.5. He also split a 29.5 in the 4x200m relay, which had a baton mishap with a last minute addition to the team. He was bummed not to be able to long jump in the meet after going 15′ in Day’s “uphill” pit in practice (14’7″ won this meet).

Newton defeats Needham — Kayla PRs in 2 events

Kayla scored 8 points to help lead Newton to a 105-31 win over Needham as Newton completed for the 1st time on its new home track (results, photos, jump sequences). She took 2nd in both the Long Jump and 100m behind Carla Forbes and added 3rd places in the 100m hurdles and triple jump. State leading marks were set in 3 of her 4 events (Forbes in LJ and TJ, Wong in 100m hurdles).

Kayla set personal bests in the long jump (16’7″, 16’6″, 15’10”) and triple jump (32’7″) and state qualified in the Long Jump. She also set season PRs in 100m and 100m hurdles. She currently ranks 5th in the league and 7th in the state in the long jump (out of 349 competitors). In the triple jump, she ranks 31st of 229 in the state, after only 3 tries s in the new event for her.

Patriots Day Weekend Soccer

Jared had two MPS soccer games this past weekend. They dropped both games, but Jared impressed his new coach with his intensity in the first game (referring to him as mvp) and played him for all of both games. The 1st game was in Hopkinton so it made for a convenient marathon course dry run as well. Jared has a bit shin splints from track distance running now so he’s resting this week.
