The Debate:
“Sorry that I bailed out so fast but I had to attend a birthday party for my 85 year old mother.
I thought the debate provided good points for the audience to take into consideration when they decide how they are going to vote.
On a strictly debating points standard, I thought the negative side were more effective debaters. They clashed more directly with the other’s sides arguments. The affirmative tended to repeat the same talking points. The second negative speaker was, by far, the best debater.
Everyone in the debate needed to work on cross-examination skills, i.e., asking more concise questions rather than repeating their own talking points.
One point that the affirmative only mentioned in passing was that reducing the Council would save the town a lot of money. I don’t know if this argument is valid or not, but if it is, they should have made a bigger deal about it.
I enjoyed the debate and look forward to learning of the outcome on November 7th.
