Newton North Spring Athletic Awards Night
Jared gave a speech at the Newton North Spring Athletic Awards Night:
He also picked up his 7th varsity letter and was recognized for his sportsmanship, not only by his team and coach, but athletes and coaches from across the league.
Kayla was quoted by Newton North Principal Jen Price in announcing the two new Joe Tranchita Scholarships (jump to 1:06):
Jared finished his dual meet season last week accumulating 97 points (#2 in the league) and a career total of over 260 points (#1 in league, exceed 4 year totals). He pulled his “good” hamstring in the final dual meet against Needham on May 20th. After taking 10 days off, he managed to return for Eastern D1 championships Saturday and improve upon his 5th place seed with a 4th place opening jump and a berth to the State Open this Sunday. He also qualified to compete in 100m, 200m, 400m, and both relays but injury prevented this.
Jared also wrote the milesplit article for the championship meet; interviewing the winning coach for 30min on Sunday: Andover Teams Sweep D1 Championships

Varsity Awards Night
Jared gave his first speech as co-captain at the Newton North Varsity Awards night, where he picked up his 7th varsity letter. This evening he was also voted onto the Bay State Conference All-Star team for the 2nd time, earning unanimous votes from all 11 league coaches. He concluded his indoor season Saturday with a 10th place finish in the State Open behind 9 seniors. His 21′ 9 3/4″ D1 jump ranked him 4th in the state overall for the season.
Jared wins MIAA Division State Championship long jump with PR 21′ 9 3/4″
Jared overcame his hamstring injury to hit one of his key goals for the year; winning the MIAA Division 1 State Championship with an indoor personal best jump of 21′ 9 3/4″ on his 6th and final attempt (Photos, results, globe results, milesplit coverage). This was Jared first high school championship title.
He was in 4th pace going into finals with a 20’8″ 2nd jump and then 2nd after 4 jumps with a 21’1″ which put him 1″ behind the leader. The win advances him to the state open on Saturday February 21st. He also ran a leg of the 4x200m for 7th and that team will likely advance to the open with a wildcard slot (last divisional meet is Tuesday).
This jump puts Jared at 4rd in the Massachusetts state rankings, 4.5″ out of 1st and likely seeds him 2nd or 3rd in the State Open.
