Jared jumps indoor PR 21’5″ – North finishes 18th undefeated dual meet season

Jared improved his indoor long jump personal best by half a foot to 21’5″ and won the 55m dash in 6.74 in an 80-20 win over Walpole to conclude Newton North’s 18th undefeated season (results). The long jump mark ranks him 3rd overall in Massachusetts and 35th nationwide among juniors. Given the flat landing pit and lack of tail winds, this was also intrinsically better than his outdoor 21’11” PR.

He concluded the dual meet season undefeated in long jump and 55m and scoring a league-leading 67 points in 5 meets despite missing a meet due to injury.

He got some ink in last week’s Newton Tab for performances against Framingham and in the weekend’s State Coaches Elite meet where he got top 8 finishes in LJ, 55m, and 4x200m against the top competitors in the state (photos, 4x200m video).

Jared leads North to 110th consecutive indoor victory

Newton North won its 110th consecutive indoor track dual meet tonight against Needham. A team has to capture 51 of the available 100 points and it was handicapped to be an even 50-50 match up by a league coach earlier this morning, and that without the knowledge that Jared was nursing a hamstring strain from his last dual meet in December against Weymouth.

Jared first cleared 5’3″ in the high jump and then went to long jump to open competition with a 19’10” jump. Needham followed with strong 19’1 and 19’5″ jumpers hitting personal bests. He returned to high jump and missed twice attempting a PR 5’5″. His teammate Ben had cleared 5’5″ on 1st attempt and the two Needham jumpers failed to clear it, but had him beat on tie-breaker. He cleared PR 5’5″ on his last attempt for 2nd to get North 3 points. Both he and Ben passed their remaining attempts to focus on other events.

He returned to long jump pit and increased mark to 20’3″ for the win and 5 points; passing his 3rd attempt.

Next he went to 55m dash and lead a 1-2 North finish in a PR-matching 6.76 for another 5 points.

North went into relays leading 50-50, needing a win in one of the 5 point relays to win the meet. North hoped to lock up the meet in 4x200m while saving strength for 4x400m in case of mishap. The 4×2 team narrowly lost leaving it to the 4×4 team to compete for the win. Jared had not trained for the 400m since December, yet split a 53.2 3rd leg in North’s 3:31.37 win (MA #3 of 430) for another 5 points. He got some help from his friend Lucas Holt from Natick who passed him mid way and kept him moving along.

Overall Jared contributed to 18 of North’s 55 points and helped sustain a 17+ year winning streak for his coach.

Jared sets three Indoor Personal Bests against Weymouth

Jared high jumped 5’4″ (tied teammate for dual meet win and passed further attempts), long jumped 20′ 10″ (1st in league by 1.5ft), won the 55m in 6.76 (tied league win), and lead off the 4x400m relay in 53.7 in Newton’s 80-20 win over rival Weymouth (results, video). He contributed a career-high 15.25 points for the team. The 1st 3 performances are indoor PRs.

North opens 2014-15 Indoor Track Season with win over Brookline

Newton North opened its 2014-15 Indoor Track Season (schedule) with a win over Brookline (results). Junior Captain Jared won the Long Jump (with an indoor PR and league leading 20′ 7.75″), the 300m (video), and anchored the winning 4x200m relay with a 22.9 split (video). He also his high jump debut with a 5′ 3″ jump for 3rd (video). Overall he contributed 16 points to Newton North’s 68 to 32 point win.

Jared scores 13 points at Bay State Conference Championships

Jared took 2nd in 100m (11.42), 6th in long jump (20’1.5″), and anchored the North 4x100m team to a come from behind 2nd place (44.47) to contribute 13 points to Newton’s victory at the Bay State Conference Championships (results, photos).

Jared was narrowly nipped in the 100m by Braintree senior Chris Carson by 0.01. Meet results were actually delayed overnight so they could read the photo closely to break the near tie. He fought back in the 4x100m anchoring from behind against Carson, running his fastest recorded split ever (10.24) to bring Newton from 4th to 2nd at the line, this time with Jared taking it by 0.01.

Jared’s “Hip Hop Beat HD” is the soundtrack of the meet’s highlight film. Kayla was back to cheer on her brother (and then some at 3:31):

Jared’s next meet will be Easter D1 Championships in Andover on Sunday June 1st starting around 10:30. Plan is for him to run 4×1, 4×4, and long jump, although he’s qualified in 100m and 200m as well so things could change. It will take strong performances in each event to advance to state open.

Jared is ranked 13th in state in 100m (out of 1493), 20th of 1409 in the 200m, and 18th of 881 in the long jump. Among underclassmen, he is 2nd, 4th, and 1st respectively in the state in those events.

Newton closes out undefeated season

Jared won the long jump (21’3.5″) and 200m (23.1) and took 2nd in the 100m (11.3) in Newton’s 93-43 win over Braintree Wednesday to close the dual-meet portion of the season 7-0. Jared contributed 99 points with 18 wins and 3 seconds (2nd highest in league behind Nick Fofana) over the course of the season. Uncle Joe was there to watch the meet.

Jared Opens with Triple Win over Norwood and hits new 100m PR

Healed up from his indoor injury and layoff, Jared opened his outdoor season on an up note winning the long jump in 20’10”, the 100m in a personal best 11.0, and the 200m in 22.6 –his 2nd best time ever (Youtube Video).   The 200m will likely be the state leading mark for a bit. Andrew Bolze ran 10.6 today in Higham, so he’s 2nd there once that data is entered.

Among returning Massachusetts athletes, he comes into season ranked 4th in long jump, 10th in 200m, and 30th in 100m.

I have a bunch of winter meets to catch up on for KP and JP as well.

He took 2nd overall in the 300m, in his first attempt at the event.
